There are some really great and memorable beys from that generation with unique abilities such as spring loaded contact points, free spinning parts, mode changes, special attacks, etc. Gen 3, Switchstrike, is a good place to start. The first gen isn't really worth getting, and the second generation may give you some fun, but isn't really powerful anymore. Valtryek V1, Victory Valtryek V2, Genysis Valtryek V3, Wonder Valtryek V4. The generation (in Hasbro format) can be seen by the number the name of the bey ends with. For example, the TT Deep Chaos is bad because of it's weak teeth (which means it bursts easily), but Hasbro's version of it, Caynox C3, has stronger burst resistance so it is much better.īurst comes in multiple generations, each much more powerful than the last. In fact, some Hasbro parts are even stronger than TT parts because they are released afterwards and can improve on TT's designs. Takara Tomy (the Japanese company) makes arguably better ones, but with Burst Hasbro has been doing pretty well with keeping the quality up to par (with one exception that I'll talk about in a minute). It adds a fun aspect of having to hunt for the beys in different stores, as opposed to ordering them online. Some would disagree with me, but for casual fun, I would buy Hasbro beys from the store. Some cause attack patterns, some cause the bey to sit in the center, and some even do wacky things like using a suction cup to stick to the stadium.

The driver greatly affects the behavior of the bey. The driver is a spring loaded tip that holds the bey together by clicking or sliding into the layer, sandwiching the disk inbetween. Core disks can have a plastic frame put on them. Core disks are named after a number rather than a regular name (1, 2, 3, instead of heavy, wing, magnum). This gives the bey extra weight and determines the weight distribution. The metal part which sits below the layer is the disk. Each has their own unique name, so keep an eye out for them. They come in a variety of different shapes, colors, and have special abilities. Is it the part you see the most, and the part that makes the most contact with other beys in battle. The first thing you should know is that each bey is made up of about 3 parts.

This isn't a great guide for any competitive purposes.) This would be a good guide for a parent getting some for their kids or something like that.

(Disclaimer: A lot of this was taken from a comment I made to someone asking where to start for casual play and which ones to pick up in the stores in America, so most of this applies to that. Do remember that I'm not an expert, just a hobbyist, so others may have varying opinions about which brand is better or where to start collecting. The Burst system has changed a lot about the game and with 4 generations and two brands, it can be a bit daunting, so I'm posting this to give people my take on where to start.
